Behind the Door:

Re-evaluating the notion of monstrosity

Behind the Door - an art work by T Newfields
There's a creature in my closet
waiting for someone to open the door.

Banging the walls,
jangling the locks,
it screams,
"Get me out ah here!
Don't keep me in here anymore!"

Poor little bugger –
How lonely it must be.

Isn't there something
we can do to help?

Hey – have compassion:
All the critter wants
is an arm to chew on
or someone
to share their brains.

Don't be afraid of dah creatures
knocking at yer doors –

If you survive the encounter
you'll be stronger.

The real monsters smile seductively on TV
brain-washing multitudes
into believing mass consumerism
& militarism promote prosperity.
