As the fog of history lifts,
I think of those who've come before & inquire,
"Why did you allow those nightmares to be?"
"Why did you permit the rise of Hitler
& such mutations of humanity?"
It's easy to raise such questions
with a thick buffer of history,
yet at times I hear others whisper,
"Why are you allowing today's nightmares to continue?
Why aren't you trying to stop the butchers of this day?"
Am I not every bit as guilty
as all who place comfort above conscience
& regard injustice
as the mechanics of karma
or wheel of fate?
