THE JOURNEY CONTINUES: The Philosophy of Motion IMAGE: A series of geometrical shapes appearing to have six points surrounded by a semblance of a disjointed conversation layered against a dark jade sky with methane icefall above a frozen world. Lily: What journey is the author talking about? Lex: Is it metaphorical or metaphysical? Ron: Is there any difference? Metaphysics is but the play of metaphors. Ram: Maybe, but in one sense spirituality is the end of playing. You are controlled by more metaphors than you realize. Ron: We only have one lifetime - where's the journey in that? Linda: Many lifetimes can be experienced in one birth. Ron: Do you actually believe such hogwash? Ram: In fact, so-called ordinary reality is mostly hogwash . . . there are states of consciousness far beyond ordinary affairs. Linda: Anyway, the idea there is some spiritual voyage we need to take seems like a relatively harmless myth. Ron: No myth is harmless. There is a price we pay for each sweet 'truth' - our minds become contaminated with partial truths. Lex: (sighing) No motion – no philosophy. Ron: That might be a blessing in disguise. ===================================================================================== from _Last Poems: Lost Poems_ by T Newfields SUMMARY: A conversation among four friends about myths, metaphor, and metaphysics.
