HEIR LOOMS: Some Thoughts in Honour of D. H. Lawrence

	Why should a few black strands
	of wistful hair
	be something about which
	censors care?

	Do the curly jungles
	below the deserts of our skin
	really cause perversity or sin?

	The heirlooms of history
	offer many varieties
	of public and private hair –
	yet
	no fig leaf
	spray paint
	or razor blade
	can obscure the fact
	that in the tropics
	down there
	the turf is naturally wild
	temperatures high
	& terrain unpredictable.
