Father & I
Before my father recognized my existence
he was but a lonely youth
moving through this ocean of life
under a sea of stars.
He had a pure young spirit
I suppose.
As father's robust figure
Sank deeper into the waters
I felt the movement of his vigorous torso
And bending forward while watching his figure
In the salty immensity
His lips brushed gently against my shoulder.
In order to know me
Father bore the heaviness of this world
Without a single regret –
Though at times emotion
welled up like a wave.
Feeling the astringent, azure loneliness
of the autumn sea
My father stood silently beside me
Clasping my hand tightly
Yet like a wave yearning to seperate
From the blue enormity
I let go.
Just before passing away
Father brought his withered,
Almost childlike palms together
With a deep sense of faith
That he entered this world
To catch some glimmer of my existence,
He smiled.
