TELEVISION ADDICTION: Some thoughts on mass information consumption The first TV was an obscenity. The second one was a crime. The third was an inevitability. And now it seems people can't live unless their TVs are near them all the time. Melissa: I have no problem with people wasting massive amounts of time in front of their tellies. Tim: (wryly) Well, neither does Big Brother. Melissa: I like to think of television as a harmless tranquilizer that keeps many people out of trouble. Tim: (nodding) It's a superb propaganda tool.
