TEACHER'S PRAYER: A Half-Earnest Orison Remove my preconceptions about teaching so students can actually learn Chisel away this ego so advice will be heeded & not spurned Blast away my indifference so I'll have enough energy to care Let me discover Thy Spark in others & treat them in ways that are fair Let me not shun difficulties but see them as opportunities to learn But most of all, oh Lord, let me get a paycheck that covers the bills - that's not what many teachers earn! Melissa: Is this the prayer you would make? Tim: (Surprised) Huh – me?? I gave up praying a long while ago. Melissa: (Coyly) Wouldn't you pray for a shorter vacation or better retirement bonus? Tim: No! If anything, I'd pray that students do not have to enter public schools. Generally speaking, they're not optimal places to learn. ===================================================================================== from _Crassroom Voices - Poetry, Art, & Dialogs about Education_ by T Newfields SUMMARY: A conversation and graphic poem concerning market-driven education.
