THANKS TO OUR TEACHERS: Some tongue-in-cheek praise for educators

	Thanks to our teachers
	the status quo survives

	Thanks to their legacy
	"skill" is defined as a set of
	socially sanctioned lies

	Thanks to our teachers
	memorization is rewarded
	& creativity despised

	Because of them
	we learn focus on "what" and "when"
	rather than on "how " or "why"

	Thanks to them
	technology is worshipped
	as we live hollow, consumer lives

	Yes, thanks to our teachers
	we gradually become
	what we despise


Melissa: I think the author puts too much blame on teachers.

Liao:    It's tempting to blame one social group. However, the truth is we share 
         collective responsibility.

Melissa: Indeed. Teachers are as much victims of the system as perpetrators of it.

Tim:     I think this whole narrative is off . . . teachers and students 
         can both creatively rescript their lives.
