Gripe & Response: An Examination of Student-Teacher Discourse

I. Student Gripe

	Excuse me, teacher
	I had a few questoons fer you

	Why is it we haffta
	memorize so many facts
	in udder ta pass yer klass?

	Why do yer examinations seem like weapons
	to the unprepared

	Need yer pen be so merciless -
	can't sum mistakes B spared?

	All we want is do is read comic books:
	our intellectual hunger is gone
	& you're basically a crook.

II. Teacher Response

	Don't blame me for yer problems -
	I'm tired ah hearing gripes.

	Life is hard enough fulfilling school regulations -
	don't give me extra strife.

	The system was designed to foster literacy -
	do you think it's merely a game?

	Wake up and learn conformity -
	it's useless to fight err blame.

	If you go through the basic motions
	& kowtow appropriately
	you'll have a degree of freedom:

	no one listens to constant complaints
	and besides, inherent in life is a degree of imbecility:
	is anything on this planet perfectly great?

        certain to become a parody of your younger self.
