Behind the Door - an art work by T Newfields

Behind the Door

There's a creature in the closet
waiting for you to open the door.

It's banging the walls,
jangling locks,
screaming,
"Get me out ah here!"
"Don't lock me in anymore!"

Poor little bugger
How lonely he must be.

Isn't there something
we can do for him?

Hey – have compassion:
All the critter wants
is an arm to chew on
or someone
to share their brains.

Don't be afraid of dah creatures
knocking at your doors –

If you survive the encounter
you'll be stronger

The real monsters smile on TV
brain-washing multitudes
into believing mass consunerism
& militarism help prosperity.

Wan-Sze: This guy is weird.
Nadia: Good. Creative non-conformity is healthy.
Kasim: Yeah, but there's a bestial queerness ta him.
Will: Because he doesn't vote the way you expect?
Kasim: Nawh, those who see the Beast have it inside 'em.
